The skydiving weight limit in Thailand, at least at the two licensed Pattaya dropzones, is around 100 kg, with a small surcharge that may apply above 90 kg, and the minimum age is 12 with a parent or guardian's consent. There is no stated upper age limit and no height limit. This guide explains where those numbers come from, how they are checked on the day, and what to do if you are close to one of them.

Quick answer

As of September 2026, tandem passengers at Thai Sky Adventures and Dropzone Thailand, the two licensed dropzones on the Chonburi coast near Pattaya, must be at least 12 years old with guardian consent and weigh around 100 kg or less. A small surcharge may apply above 90 kg. No upper age limit and no height limit are set; fitness matters more than age. Pattaya Skydiving books both dropzones.

Skydive weight limit in kg: around 100 kg

The number in Pattaya is around 100 kg, and it is described as "around" for a reason: the limit is a combination of your weight, your build, how the harness sits on you, the instructor available that day, and the conditions. A passenger at 98 kg with a good harness fit is a normal jump. A passenger at 102 kg is a conversation, not an automatic no.

Above 90 kg a small surcharge may apply. It is not a penalty: a heavier pair needs a heavier, more experienced instructor and sometimes a larger canopy. The desk will tell you the exact figure when you book so there is no surprise at check-in.

The tandem weight limit at both licensed Pattaya dropzones is around 100 kg, and a small surcharge may apply above 90 kg.

The prices page lists all seven packages; a surcharge, where it applies, sits on top of the package price.

Why the skydiving weight limit in Thailand exists

There are two physical reasons behind every tandem weight limit, and neither is about how you look.

The first is the harness. A passenger harness and the four attachment points that connect it to the instructor's rig are certified by the manufacturer for a maximum load, and a dropzone that ignores manufacturer limits is also ignoring the rules of its own insurance and licence.

The second is canopy loading: the combined weight of the pair divided by the size of the parachute. A tandem canopy is large so that it flies slowly and lands gently. As loading rises, the same canopy descends faster, opens harder and lands faster, which is an unnecessary risk for a first-time passenger. The instructor also has to absorb the landing for both of you, which is why heavier passengers are matched with specific instructors.

How weight is checked on the day

You are weighed at check-in on a scale at the dropzone, typically in the clothes you will jump in. The instructor fits a harness around your thighs and chest a few minutes later, and harness fit tells them more than the number did. Arrive in sporty clothes with nothing bulky in your pockets, as the what to wear guide explains, so the harness fits properly.

If you are near the limit, the dropzone looks at three things: whether the harness sits correctly with all straps in their adjustment range, which instructor is available for the load, and what the wind is doing. Light, steady wind makes a heavier landing easier, which is why a heavier passenger may be given an early-morning slot, when the coastal air over the Gulf of Thailand is usually calmest.

The skydive age limit at the Pattaya dropzones is a minimum of 12. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian's consent, which means the guardian signs the waiver on the passenger's behalf and should come to the dropzone. Bring identification that shows the young passenger's date of birth.

Younger passengers go through the same briefing, wear the same harness, and jump with the same instructors. The harness adjusts to smaller frames, and a light passenger is an easy load for the canopy. The main thing to judge is not the age but whether the young person genuinely wants to jump; a teenager being talked into it by a parent is a harder passenger than a nervous adult who chose it. Tell the desk the passenger's age when you book so the consent paperwork is ready.

Older jumpers: fitness matters more than age

No upper age limit is stated at the Pattaya dropzones, and we are not going to invent one. What the instructor cares about is whether you can sit in a small aircraft for a roughly 15 minute climb, arch your back and hold your legs back in freefall, and lift your legs in front of you for landing. If those are comfortable, age is not the issue.

What does matter is anything that makes those movements or the forces of the jump harder: a parachute opening is a firm deceleration, the harness presses on the thighs and chest, and landing loads the legs and lower back. If you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, epilepsy, a recent surgery, or a chronic back, neck, hip or knee problem, talk to your doctor before you book. The desk cannot give medical advice, but the instructor will ask about conditions before the harness goes on. The guide on whether skydiving in Thailand is safe explains why those questions get asked.

Fitness, not age, decides whether an older passenger can tandem skydive at the Pattaya dropzones.

Is there a skydive height limit?

No. Neither Pattaya dropzone sets a height limit for tandem passengers. The passenger harness has adjustable leg, chest and shoulder straps, so it fits a wide range of builds, and the instructor checks the fit at check-in rather than measuring you. Very tall passengers sometimes worry about fitting in the aircraft or lining up at the door; in practice the instructor adjusts the attachment points and the exit position to suit the pair. Very short passengers, including 12-year-olds, are fitted the same way.

The one place height shows up indirectly is weight: a tall, heavy passenger near 100 kg is treated like any other passenger near the limit. If you are unusually tall or short and want reassurance, mention it when you book, but expect the answer to be that it makes no difference.

Who can skydive: summary table

Who can skydive at the Pattaya dropzones comes down to age, weight and fitness, not height or experience. Rules as of September 2026:

PassengerCan they tandem skydive in Pattaya?
Aged 12 to 17Yes, with a parent or guardian's consent and the guardian at the dropzone
Aged 18 and overYes, no upper age limit
Under 90 kgYes, standard tandem at the standard package price
90 kg to around 100 kgYes, a small surcharge may apply, instructor matched to the load
Around 100 kg and aboveCase by case on harness fit, instructor and conditions; contact the desk before booking
Very tall or very shortYes, no height limit; harness fit is checked at check-in
Heart, blood pressure, back, joint or recent-surgery conditionsAsk a doctor first and tell the instructor at check-in

Prices are as listed on 3 September 2026, from ฿8,450 ($235) for Eco to ฿13,000 ($365) for VIP+ at Thai Sky Adventures; any surcharge is added on top. For what to do before the day, see how to prepare for a tandem skydive.

What to do if you are near the limit

  1. Tell the desk your weight when you book, not at the scale. "I am about 97 kg" on WhatsApp gives the desk time to quote any surcharge and match an instructor.
  2. Ask for an early slot. Morning air on the coast is usually calmest, which helps a heavier landing.
  3. Do not crash-diet the week before. A kilo of water does not change the harness fit, and arriving dehydrated in Thai heat is worse than a surcharge.
  4. Be honest about health conditions. The instructor plans around what they know.
  5. If you are told no on the day, ask what would change the answer: a different instructor, day or weight. A date change has no fee.

Frequently asked questions

What is the weight limit for tandem skydiving in Thailand?

At the two licensed Pattaya dropzones the tandem weight limit is around 100 kg. Passengers above 90 kg may pay a small surcharge, because a heavier pair loads the canopy harder and needs a larger instructor. The final decision is made at check-in, where you are weighed and the harness is fitted.

What is the skydive age limit in Thailand?

The minimum age at the Pattaya dropzones is 12, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian's consent. The guardian signs the waiver on the young passenger's behalf and should come to the dropzone. No upper age limit is set; fitness matters more than the number on your passport.

Who can skydive?

Almost anyone aged 12 or over who weighs around 100 kg or less and is fit enough to sit in a small aircraft, arch in freefall and lift their legs for landing. Minors need guardian consent, passengers above 90 kg may pay a small surcharge, and anyone with a heart, back or joint condition should ask a doctor first.

Is there a height limit for skydiving?

No. Neither Pattaya dropzone sets a height limit, because the passenger harness adjusts across a wide range of builds. Very tall or very short passengers are simply checked for harness fit at check-in. Weight, not height, is the number that matters, together with general fitness for the aircraft, the arch and the landing.

What happens if I am just over 100 kg?

Tell the desk your weight honestly when you book rather than at check-in. The dropzone decides case by case, considering harness fit, instructor availability and conditions on the day. Being turned away at the scale wastes a morning; a message in advance gives the desk time to say yes, no, or which day and instructor would work.

Why do skydiving weight limits exist at all?

Two reasons. The harness and its attachment points are certified for a maximum combined load, and a tandem canopy is designed to fly and land within a certain loading range. Above that range the parachute descends faster, opens harder and lands faster, which is exactly what you do not want on a first jump.
